"The Generals Daughter," we have the character of Paul Brenner. Paul is in retirement, after the incident involving the Generals daughter, and is unsure of what to do with his
life at this point in time. With an possible mission, which at first does not interest him, he begins to awaken and chooses to take the mission, the mission that
is the novel. The following paper briefly reviews or reports on the novel "Up Country" by Nelson DeMille. Up Country As mentioned, in the beginning of the novel
we have Paul Brenner who is relatively unhappy or uncertain about his life. He is handed an assignment that he is, at first, not interested in. It is a case
nvolving a crime in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The war was thirty years ago and Brenner is not particularly interested in facing old ghosts he experienced when in Vietnam
during the war. However, because he has no real direction in his life he succumbs and goes on this mission. The mission, as alluded to, involves a crime thirty years
ago. There is a mystery for the death of one particular individual is still something that no one understands or has knowledge of. But, a letter has turned up that
may give information to the cause of the death and while Brenner has no idea why the military is so interested in the answer, he is curious. Throughout his
journeys he is confronted with a Vietnam that is primarily quite different than the Vietnam he remembers. The grass is green and cultural life is growing and thriving. It is
a culture that has nothing to do with the war he experienced. Yet, at the same time, he must go to places he remembers or knows about, places of death
