well as the styles that may be adopted the employee may be in a better position to undertake a successful negotiation. 2. Preparing for the Negotiation
In preparing for the negotiation there are several issues that need to be considered. The first are the main goals of the negotiation and the areas
where there are problems or issues that need to be negotiated, in this case salary. In this instance the negotiator is a biased negotiator, working for themselves in the negotiation,
but there needs to be a realisation that the final agreement needs to have a benefit for both parties, if the employer is squeezed too hard they may reject any
potential negotiation and the viability of the business and jobs of other may be impacted. In this case the goals will be to increase the basic salary and to
improve the terms and conditions, including improving paid holiday and a reduction in the number of hours worked. The main aims are
outlined above but it is also recognised that the employee may not gain all of these concessions and these may be priorities, with the payment increased salary and holiday time
the highest priority and the reduced hours the lowest priority. The first stage in looking at these goals is to assess the
asperational level (Lewicki, 2010). The aspirational level is the level of agreement that the negotiator will want to reach in an ideal world. It has been noted many times that
