in terms of the way negotiation have taken place, this created distrust in the last round and the firm had to offer a choice of the settlements that were initially offered to each site. In order to develop a new strategy the company needs to avoid the same fragmentation in order to develop a solutions that will at least create a degree of trust in an environment where man of the workers may be fearful of their jobs and where there is likely to be survivor guilt and already have a low level of trust (Mishra and Spreitzer, 1998). The company has to have several choices from which to make the right decision, these will not be easy, but have to be viable. In this case we now have fairly young workforces where early retirement offers are no longer possible. The first option is to educe the facilities there are two units, Alpha and Beta, these may both remain as the strategy has been to retain the separate brand, but both have outlying facilities, to rationalise the operations and cut down on the costs as well as creating the potential to realise some assets in order to help pay for the further redundancies the facilities may be sold of as development of commercial property. This would lead to the redundancies being the those in the outlying facilities first. The second plan may be to use voluntary redundancies only; this would mean offering a good package along with some help in finding a new job, this would have some risks, those who are needed most may volunteer, but this would reduce the level of distrust, it is also possible that sufficient employees do not volunteer, or that too many volunteer if the package is good. ...
