the leadership role and help the lower manager gain this very important skill. Some people just do not know what proper delegation is, some view delegation as giving up control,
others do not want to spend the time up front to delegate and still others do not believe the job will be done correctly unless they do it themselves
(Smith, 2010). Often, managers think that delegating means giving assignments to subordinates. This is the simplest form of delegation but the kind that is effective for the manager and
the other person is delegation that inherently includes autonomy and decision-making power (Williams, 2010). A great deal of thought goes into formal delegation. The manager needs to identify which tasks
or projects could be completed competently by whom. Who has the skills and knowledge to take on more responsibility and in what areas.. Williams (2010) refers to this as strategic
delegation. After deciding what will be delegated to whom, the manager needs to determine the parameters. In other words, exactly what is expected of the subordinate and how much
autonomy do they have to accomplish the tasks. For instance, can they hire or recruit assistants, is there a budget for the task or project, what is the deadline for
completion and what does the manager expect in terms of progress reports (Williams, 2010). In some cases, the manager may want the subordinate to work on a problem, recommend solutions
for it and bring the recommendations to the manager who will make a decision. In other cases, the manager will give the task to the subordinate with authority to make
