Paul as insensitive to the role of women in society and the Christian church (Man and Woman, 2005). In this text, Baumert shows, through painstaking reevaluation of Pauls original language, that Pauls message concerning human sexuality, in general, and women, specifically, has been misunderstood throughout the centuries (Man and Woman, 2005). Baumert begins by pointing out how the misconceptions regarding Pauls position originated. He asks, "In his letters do we not detect a hatred of the human body?" (p.1). Also, Baumert points out that Paul frequently mentions sexuality in conjunction with sin and the married state is considered secondary to the celibate. While this has historically been the case, Baumert argues that by going back to the original text, one can discern a far different picture of Paul, a liberating picture. Since Baumert deals with the actual text of Pauls letters, his book is divided along the lines of textual concerns. The first part of the book, part A, which is composed of the first seven chapters presents passages from Pauls letters that are considered to be authentic. Part B discusses texts that are traditionally ascribed to Paul. Part C in Baumerts text offers a biblical view of humanity that he suggests should be read in tandem with the other parts of this analysis. In part D, the final section of the text, the author avails himself of various other theological views and disciplines in order to address the material previously covered. In part A, "The Principal Pauline Letters," Baumert begins by pointing out that Paul was a man who received and passed on to others the "love of God"; therefore, a "rigid anti-feminism and sexual inhibition do not fit well with such a personality" (p. 7).
