used in the field of design as it involves architecture and forms of art. However, recent developments indicate that it may well be a powerful force which an be incorporated
into the visual image media, a form of media that can involve films but also involve education. In the following paper we define aspects of the role of nature in
design as seen through sustainable communities, then discuss the visual image media that involves film and lastly discuss the visual image media that is the primary teacher of many individuals
today, indicating that through the use of film and education nature in design can be implemented to ensure greater growth on the part of a society. Nature in
Design In better understanding some of the elements found within nature in design we look at one particular article which addresses the "Principles and Guidelines for Sustainable Community Design" (Hsin,
2003). In doing so we can see some of the social contexts into which nature in design fits, and how people in general may well view their environment with the
aid of nature in design. Hsin (2003) states that "In a society where names and categories form the basis of human communication and understanding, the concept of sustainability becomes difficult
to grasp....Society has encultured us to understand things through naming and categorizing. This is the opposite of the concept of sustainability, in which everything is one, separation and independence is
not possible." As such it become imperative that a way be found to make sustainable design practical for humans, bringing nature in design into play. Hsin (2003) further indicates
