In many places around the nation the Native American people have not really assimilated into the European culture that has been a part of the nation since its conquest. The
Native Americans are often still restricted on reservations, and they still possess, on the whole, a very different culture, or approach to American culture, than the Euro-Americans. The following paper
examines the differences between the two in relationship to culture and religion, as well as discussing possible solutions to problems. Native Americans and Euro-Americans While many people may
assume that the Native cultures today are really not very different than the Euro-American culture, the truth is that they are generally very different. One author notes that, "Taking Native
culture seriously requires that we abandon the attempt to put Native wine into European bottles" (Piker). The Native Americans are different in their culture than the Euro-Americans (Piker). From
first hand experience this particular writer/researcher can say that a great deal of differences are evident in relationship to the two cultures. This writer/researcher lives in a region of the
nation where the majority is comprised of Navajo and Zuni peoples. Being Euro-American puts this individual in the clear minority, but yet also allows this individual to see how the
culture is quite different from mainstream culture in many aspects, on a daily basis. In this region of the country, for example, the
general native population is far less hurried than much of the rest of the country as time seems almost irrelevant. The school system is one of the areas where much
