Education among Native American Indians has historically been poor to say the least but new initiatives in recent years show promise. The Economic Opportunity Act of 1965
was a major piece of legislation which directly impacted the Indian population (Woodcock and Alawiye, 2001). This program authorized programs such as Head Start, the Job Corps, and Indian
Community Action Programs (Woodcock and Alawiye, 2001). This really was the beginning of the improvement of Native Americans educational standards (Woodcock and Alawiye, 2001). With the creation of
these programs, the government began to become involved with the educational standards and practices in regards to the American Indians. More
help would follow for this minority group in terms of government assistance programs. Job training and placement programs are available for both adults and students, and numerous health intervention
programs exist with the purpose of offering health-care services to this population specifically. Many more improvements have been implemented since that time which specifically target Native American populations
