Native American lands present an interesting impact to the U.S. economic system. These casinos are based on the market system, that is they thrive only because there is a
demand for their services. The Native Americans that own these casinos and work in them benefit economically and socially as the generated funds are turned towards improving the standard
of living form the Native Americans themselves. Improvements to the health care that is available on reservations, to the educational systems, and other improvements, of course, ultimately translate into
less of a tax drain on the government and the wages and benefits received by the Native Americans and non-Natives who work in these casinos into a higher per capita
income for the nation as a whole. The precise impacts of Native American casinos to our countrys economic system vary, of course,
according to the specific casino and the group operating that casino. A critical point that is relevant to most all Native American casinos is that the money being spent
there is not that of the Native peoples by that of outside peoples. This presents a benefit to the Native Americans, not a detriment. Consider, for example, the
Mississippi Choctaw. At least one anthropologists has termed the Mississippi Choctaw, along with several other southeastern native groups as belonging to a "refugee-traditional" culture (Paredes, 1995). Although the
