the strong belief in country and culture, is in reality an ideology. It is an ideology which has shaped the face of the world as we see it today.
One cultural group after another has risen up to proclaim themselves a nation in a national liberation movement which has escalated over time. This movement has been particularly
progressive in the last two centuries. The United States itself first proclaimed its independence in 1776. Just a few years
later, in 1812, we were once again fighting against the British in protection of our sovereignty. Europe too was undergoing great political changes at the hands of nationalistic ideology.
The Napoleonic wars are only one example of the many changes which occurred there. Perhaps the most vivid nationalistic changes
which have occurred in the world, however, unfolded at the beginning of the twentieth century with World War I, the war which spanned between 1914 and 1918. This was
a war which affected the entire world. It was a war which centered on nationalistic ideology. World War II and the Nazism which it centered around would be
soon to follow and it too would have long lasting retributions on the world. It too would center on nationalistic ideology. The
effects of that great war that we know as "The War to End All Wars", World War I, were much more far reaching than we typically think. Although in
Western minds the effects of this war are most often remembered in term of European countries and the United States, countries from all over the world were affected. Many
