Germany can be contended to have been achieved largely as a result of a strong sense of nationalism which persisted in the two countries. Italian opposition to Austrian dominion, the National uprising of 1848, the restoration of Austrian control. For Germany touch upon key events as the underground liberal movements, the Frankfurt assembly and the Prussian reaction the Frankfurt assembly. Nationalism is often inextricably tied in fact to the concepts of freedom and liberty. Nationalism is not, however, a single ideology. Instead, it is many. Every country, in fact, has its own nationalistic ideology. They exist because of this ideology. Under a nationalistic perspective ones loyalty to his or her nation takes precedence over all other loyalties. This loyalty even theoretically transcends loyalty to ones own family, ethnicity, or religion. In general, minorities often seek to separate from the state which rules them to form nation-states. The specific expression of nationalism, of course, is determined in part by the ethnicity and political makeup of a country. Nationalism also addresses the question as to what the proper limits of the political community is. Nationalism has existed practically throughout the history of the world but it would eventually become progressively more aggressive over time, particularly during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. An example of this can be found in the fascist and Nazi governments which have rendered so many social atrocities in recent history. Both the political unification of Italy and the political unification of Germany was achieved, in part, due to a strong sense of nationalism.
