time then things would have been quite different. On the other hand, people today complain that their rights are violated when they are allowed to be detained without cause due
to the Patriot Act. They do not like to wait long hours for an airplane nor be subject to pat downs. National security issues loom large in the United States
in 2005. What will they be like in five years? In light of globalization and the knowledge revolution, it seems that national security will be a bit different in 2010.
In five years time, it is possible that technology will change and perhaps people will be identified by their irises or finger prints. With the threat of biological warfare,
urban warfare and nuclear threats, there may be a more stringent view of security taken. There are of course different opinions on the matter. For example, in respect to
Internet security, Berinato (2003) reports that projections are such that it is thought that about 100,000 software vulnerabilities will be discovered in the year 2010. This signifies that the society
is dependent upon computer technology. Part of the puzzle goes to the fact that there will be more net users. By the year 2010, it is projected that
there will be an additional half billion Internet users (2003). Yet, the author also notes that while things might be like that if nothing changes, the future is optimistic
