The National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) at Bethesda is the primary site of Navy medicine and is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States. Its structure is consistent with military hierarchy, but it operates with much compassion and caring for the service members it exists to serve. NNMC will be taking on some of the functions of Walter Reed Army Hospital by 2011 and so has opportunity to greatly enhance the quality and efficiency of both the existing organization and the one it will become within three years. Mission, Vision, Values NNMC clearly states its mission and vision statements. They are: Our Vision We are the epicenter of change in military medicine, leading the way to an integrated continuum of world-class patient and family centered care (Vision and Mission, n.d.).
