Organisational culture can be seen as a way of determinant and manipulating the way in which people behave (Sinclair, 1993). Yet, even in an environment where each company has a different culture there will also be a plethora of macro as well as the often more considered micro influences. One of these is the national culture. There are many international issues in business that will impact on the way business is conducted, language difference may be the most obvious, but they are not the only differences. The culture of two difference countries will also be of importance in the way trade is negotiated and conducted and the manner in which decision are made. The culture will embody the aspects such as morals, ethics and the use of tools such as empowerment (Veiga, 1993). If we look at two major nations, such as Japan and American we can illustrate this type of cultural impact. To undertake a deeper consideration this we will use Hofstedes model. If we break this down into the different manifestations and consider the national culture then we can use examples which the student can expand upon. Hofstede identified five continuums which he used to define culture. Individual vs. Collective Orientation In this area we need to look at the levels from which the power emanates that regulates the behaviour of an organisation.
