such a story as it involves a pious young man who sets out on a mystery of sorts. In this story the man discovers truths that scare him and leave
him lost for all the remaining years of his life. The following paper examines if Young Goodman Brown can be considered a hero or a fool. Young Goodman
Brown: Hero or Fool? In first discussing whether Brown is a hero or a fool it is important to define the two. A hero is someone who essentially puts their
life on the line, and fights for something that is just and right. A hero can be an individual who saves someones life, or someone who fights against injustice. They
risk their life in many cases. A fool is someone who blindly believes in something that is ignorantly assumed. A fool is often someone who does not have the capability
or willingness to look deeper than what they are taught, or someone who is incapable of such intelligence. In the case of Young Goodman Brown, he never stands up
to what he feels is not right. He does not risk his life, although he may think he is risking his life by going outside at night. What really seems
to be happening is that he feels he is risking his soul. If this is the case then a hero would emerge victorious in some way, having shed light on
the evils of the community. Brown does not do this. Brown shrivels in the face of danger as he sees it and never stands up for one thing or another.
