those required to participate in such a program. The Clinic provides a number of other social services for clients. NAAP provides services primarily to persons in Long Island, New York,
which is comprised of Suffolk and Nassau Counties. This paper proposes that the NAAP extend its services to include more clients. There is a particular need to provide these
services to persons who speak Polish or Spanish. Presently, NAAP has one counselor who speaks Spanish and one intern counselor who speaks Polish, yet, there is a strong population
of persons who speak one of these languages. The 2000 Census reported that in Suffolk County, 8.8 percent of the County spoke Spanish (Long Island University, Suffolk, n.d.) and in
Nassau County, 9.2 percent spoke Spanish at home (Long Island University, Nassau, n.d.). That proportion had increased to over 10 percent by 2005 (District Attorneys Office, 2005). Over 10
percent of the population in both Suffolk County and Nassau County was Hispanic or Latino at the time of the Census (Long Island University, Suffolk, n.d.; Long Island University, Nassau,
n.d.). The Census did not report how many people spoke Polish but it did report 6 percent of Polish decent in Suffolk and 5.6 percent in Nassau (Long Island University,
Suffolk, n.d.; Long Island University, Nassau, n.d.). In numbers, there are about 300,000 people in these two counties who speak Spanish or Polish, thus, it makes sense to offer
these services at NAAP. At this time, NAAP has only ten clients who speak Spanish and five who speak Polish. The counselor who speaks Spanish works full-time but only with
male groups. The intern counselor who speaks Polish works only one evening a week with Polish men. The skills of both staff members are not being utilized to their full
