and it is certainly not a story with any true moral, message, or even ending. What makes it an incredibly powerful story is its narrative style that sucks us into
the lost character of Travis, and offers us no answers to lifes confusing realities. Martin Scorsese, the director of this film, presents the viewer with a remarkable narrative style that
truly brings the images to life, no matter their distasteful nature. In the following paper we examine the narrative style of the film as it is presented through the character
of Travis and his narrative, and the direction of Scorsese. Taxi Driver "The Media Students Book defines narrative as a complex term referring to a sequence of events
organized into a story with a particular structure. Feature films, for example, are narratives as they tell a story using a structure" (Daigle). As we can readily imagine and assume,
films often "differ in the medium used and the representational conventions" which is clearly the case with "Taxi Driver" (Daigle). Through the narrative style that is offered up through
Travis character and his perceptions, as well as the direction of Scorsese, we note that "Travis is surely the hero, but is he a good hero? In fact it is
hard to draw oppositions between Travis and the Villain, Sport, as both are strong males who use forceful methods and generally their actions are morally questionable" (Daigle). From this perspective
the audience is urged to examine the character of Travis in order to understand him, or perhaps be able to define him as the hero of the film. Scorsese is
able to thus present the audience with a narrative that sways us in a direction we would not necessarily have expected and as such sends the films message, or lack
