health profession to be the definitive source in the classification of mental disorders (Rivas, 2001). Theoreticians disagree in the etiology of narcissistic
personality disorder (NPD), however, Kohuf and Kernberg found consensus concerning the symptoms that typify it. Essentially its features include a pervasive sense of grandiosity; a need for admiration; and a
lack of empathy for the feelings of others (Rivas, 2001 citing DSM-IV, 1994). For instance, NPD could manifest itself behaviorally in the person who exaggerates a minor achievement, such as
cleaning house; expects praise and recognition without doing anything to earn it; and feels entitled to express their opinion without being burdened by listening to the opinions of others
(Rivas, 2001). Research in this area has demonstrated that narcissistic disorder is characterized by a two-tiered personality organization (Svrakic, 1990). The grandiose behavior of the narcissist is on the
first level, and it is at this level tat a pathological and intra-psychic structure is dominant. On the second and deeper level, the real self of the narcissistic personality exists,
and it is this personality that suffers from extremely low self-esteem (Svrakic, 1990). Content (Etiology) Attempts to develop self-reported measures of narcissistic personality disorder have presented unexpected challenges (Watson
and Hickman, 1995). In response to this, Watson and Hickman (1995) conducted a study that measured self-reported narcissism, self-esteem and perceptions of parents as nurturing in a sample of 459
