is unique and often differs from the dominant culture. Scientists usually find profound differences but they discover similarities as well. Such findings add to the literature on peoples and how
they act and react to various things in the world. In other words, by looking at a microcosm of society that has not been exposed to the larger society,
one can examine what may be aligned with the true nature of man and what is a social construction. In examining the Yanomamo, Napoleon A. Chagnon is able to contribute
a lot to the literature on people who have not assimilated into the larger society. It appears that the theoretical school of American anthropology which most closely reflects Napoleon Chagnons
work is that of cultural ecology. This theoretical approach affects the description of the Yanomamo that is provided by the author. Instead of comparing and contrasting the culture with
other similar cultures, the author simply delves into the specific entity and examines it for what it is. He considers the relationships between individuals as unique and very important. He
then compares it to the dominant culture. The authors approach to an extent influences the description of the Yanomamo as it respects kinship and marriage. There is a great deal
of marriage of cousins within this group. This trend is interesting as it differs a great deal from what exists in more developed entities. Chagnon (1997) explains that "it is
easy to marry a cross-cousin if you have a lot of them to choose from, and the more polygyny there is, the more cross-cousins there will be" (149). There does
