It is not politically correct to blame family influences, especially if the family is for the most part working hard and paying their taxes. If however, there was alcoholism, or some other illness to blame then it would be acceptable. So in an effort to defuse the debate and water it down politically so no one person or group gets the blame for this kind of event, "the media" becomes the scapegoat and whipping boy. It is easier to spread out the blame to violence shown on television, film books and music to divert attention than focus on the real influences in a persons life. One father put the total blame on this outside source, saying his "15-year-old son Richard "was a good boy. ... The music wasnt symptomatic of other problems. This blame is often so thinly spread to general media that it dissipates and people lose sight of the problem until another tragedy happens.
