be without retirement coverage, Section 218 of the SSA was enacted in 1951, which authorized states to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Society Security Administration in order to
provide SS coverage for state and local public employees. The New Jersey section 218 coverage agreement was enacted on December 30, 1952 and provides that the State will pay "appropriate
contributions due on wages paid for covered services" (SSR 73-55, etc., 2004). 2. Are they covered for full social security...or for Medicare-only? A Section 218 agreement provides "Old-Age,
Survivors, Disability and Hospital Insurance...protection" (SSCSLGE, 2001). Employees covered under a Section 218 agreement have the same Social Security Medical Hospital Insurance coverage and benefits as employees in the private
