were in touch with what was going on, as was the Department of Homeland Security secretary. These officials were following the National Response Framework, which is a document that details
just about everything that is needed to know on the local, state and federal level to mitigate potential disaster problems. And this is a prime example of its use during
a particular emergency - though it impacted only one part of one state, everyone up the chain was on alert. Once called
the National Response Plan, the National Response Framework is a guide that provides instructions and details on how to deal with hazards of all kinds (National Response Framework, 2009). The
Framework puts forward specific response principles, informing states, private sector and non-governmental agencies how to apply the principles for a coordinated, effective national response (National Response Framework, 2009). The gudye
is geared toward first responders and decision-makers (National Response Framework, 2009). The Framework also describes under what circumstances the federal government can
step in and provide more support (National Response Framework, 2009). The Framework itself is an 81-page booklet describing everything from the roles and responsibilities of the private sector, tribal governments
