National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) claims a large portion of the budget of the United States each year, for the purpose of exploring the space that surrounds planet Earth
and for journeying to the planets closest to us in our own solar system. Given the perpetual budget crunch that deficit spending forces on the American people, would spending

products that can trace their origins to the space program. Many of these products have narrow application, an example is the technology that developed heat shield tiles for the
space shuttle. Others have much wider application and commercial import; Teflon(r) is an example. The development of plastic housewares of all kinds is another. Even so, NASAs
operation is hugely expensive and all taxpayers share in the cost. Others have questioned the effect of NASA operation on the economy of
the areas in which it operates sites (Reddy, 2006). NASA Langley was the object of one of the investigations seeking to identify NASAs economic impact. In 1996 when
the study was conducted, NASA Langleys "total outlay of $640,251,000 increases economic output in the region by a total of $1,364,191,000 for a combined impact of slightly more than $2
