of this struggle, an aspect that has actually been done in real life. In this story a child is diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and the parents conceive
another child so that the new child can serve as a donor when needed. The following paper examines the ethical issues and dilemmas presented in this particular novel.
"My Sisters Keeper" by Jodi Picoult As mentioned, the premise of the book is something that has been done before in real life, wherein people conceive a child so that
it can help another child or person live through some sort of disease of condition. In this story the ill girl, Kate, is now 16 and her sister, Anna, the
donor, is 13. Anna has spent her entire life going through medical procedures that strip her of many things so that her sister can survive. At this point in their
lives Anna is now being asked to donate her kidney and she has clearly had enough. At this young age she hires a lawyer to fight her parents and to
fight for the right to choose what happens to her own body. The mother, acting as the attorney on the behalf of Kate, clearly stands against her daughters wishes as
she will do anything for Kate. From this brief description of the novel it is quite obvious that many ethical issues are in existence. The very first ethical issue
involves the conceiving of Anna just so that their other daughter will live. The parents also have a son, and this son becomes something of a delinquent because of neglect.
