the valley and in fact was the founder of North Bend. My grandfather died five years ago at the age of 99. Taylor had been dead for many decades by that time, but all of the kids in the neighborhood are drilled with that name: William Taylor. "Who founded North Bend?" Mrs. Jones, my first grade teacher, would ask. "North Bend," we would reply in unison. No one forgets that fact. My life here is nothing extraordinary and thats a fact, but it is true that my life might have been different had I lived in a place other that what inspired David Lynch to write Twin Peaks. At least, the television show was filmed here, and my life, as I have come to know it, has felt almost as strange. Aside from the occasional tourist who comes to eat a slice of "Twin Peaks" cherry pie, life is quiet. But last summer something extraordinary happened. Gary Carroll and Audrey Gibson were in the park. It was Fourth of July weekend and they were having this thing, a campout or something or other...not Gary and Audrey. There was something going on in the park itself. It wasnt the Boy Scouts though we have more than our share of those kids here. But it wasnt as if the Seattle crowd was haunting us. Rather, there were just many more people than usual. Before I tell my story, I should tell you that I am a transplant. Yes, born and raised here, I took off when I was twenty years old to live in New York and now I am back and have been back for two years. I decided to spend a weekend in the park camping.
