affect? Why? I am a victim of abandonment. When I was a small child, my mother left to go to rehab. My fathers whereabouts were unknown. While may
grandmother raised me, there was no pretense and although I called her my mother to friends for example, I knew that my mother was not taking care of me. Even
when my mother was let out of the rehabilitation center there would always be an excuse as to why she could not come home, but they told me that she
would when she was ready. She was never ready. A student writing on this subject should point out how the early life experience relates to the present time period.
Today, I am a full grown woman who realizes that her mothers failings are not her own. Still, the fact that my father--whether he knew I existed--was absent, and that
my mother did not have the wherewithal to care for me, is something that has affected my life and always will. For example, every relationship I have had with a
man has ended in disaster. If a man I am dating does not call, I worry that I will never see or hear from him again. If a good friend
does not return a call right away, I wonder if she still cares about me. The cliche is that I have "abandonment issues." The knowledge tat this is the case
does not help. The experience has also affected me in other ways. Because there is a tendency for my family to become addicts, I stay away from drugs and alcohol
and cringe whenever anyone around me takes a drink. In some ways, this is positive. While my personal experience may appear somewhat worrisome, I believe that I am psychologically healthy,
