tremendous good fortune to have a strong, intelligent, and devoted mother who shaped my character and has been a tremendous positive influence on me throughout my life. I credit
my mothers influence with the fact that I persevere when faced with an obstacle and never give up until I have accomplished the goal that I have set out to
obtain. My mothers influence also dictates that the obtainment of goals should always occur through hard work, learning and persistence, never resorting to any form of duplicity. Thanks to my
upbringing and my mothers influence, I have a deep and abiding faith in God and understand and follow Christian principles in setting the path for my life. My mother
never received any formal education as she was born poor on the island of Jamaica. However, my mothers native intelligence and ability was always evident to me as she possessed
a wealth of knowledge that derived from native culture and her own experimentation with herbal medicine, as our family could not afford to go to a doctor or seek any
form of formal healthcare services when a member of the family became ill. I learned perseverance and developed a strong work ethic because I observed these qualities in my
mother. We were poor and there was never sufficient money to meet the familys needs. Nevertheless, my mother would explore all avenues and possibilities to ensure that her children had
