is associated with gloom and despair. It is cold and while some people do not like the winter months, and look forward to the arrival of spring, all I can
say is that winter holds a special place in my heart. In Vietnam, where I am from, the climate is tropical ("Vietnam," 2005). I never knew what snow was, but
when I came to America it was snowing. I took that as a sign that good things were to come as I picked up the cold, white substance in my
hand and it felt wonderful. A dog came by and I was surprised and then he licked the snow from my hands. I decided to taste it too. There was
very little color, taste or odor to this new substance. Some of the kids in the neighborhood knocked on the door and invited us out to play. It was
nice playing in the snow, but perhaps the nicest part about it was later when I was introduced to hot chocolate and a crackling fire. I looked out the window
and realized that the silence was deafening. I would later learn that silence and snow are often words hooked together. Towns blanketed in snow are silent, peaceful and beautiful.
Vietnam is warm throughout the year so I reveled in the snow fall. I only knew how to make a snow man from software I previously found online
("Snowman," 2005). I enjoyed making a snowman in real snow. I did this after putting on heavy gloves. I was taught to pack the snow so that these
little flakes, which are hardly discernible as individuals, are put together. Then, my friends and I piled the snow to form a very large base. The mid-section of the snowman
