it is also an educational oasis. My decision to transfer to Occidental College has been made partially in consideration of the colleges geographic location and cultural offerings but mostly
in consideration of the opportunity the college offers to me to further my education. A college education can translate into many things in life. One of the most
important of these is the provision of the knowledge needed to effectively perform in my chosen profession. A college education prepares students to take on adulthood. It prepares
them for the jobs and careers that come afterward. A college education can turn young people into productive adults who can not only function but excel in society.
Very simply, Occidental College offers the best blend of courses and extracurricular activities that will propel me forward in life. My success in
life, of course, is not wholly dependent on what college I choose or even whether or not I decide to go to college. My success ultimately depends on my
own hard work. I have chosen Occidental, however, to help me hone my knowledge in certain skill areas. Communication skills are particularly important in my chosen occupation.
Communication skills play a large role in business even from the time an applicant initially approaches the business for employment. Communication skills are often weighed more heavily, in fact,
by potential employers than are grade point averages, degrees, or even technical skills. A job applicants skill in communication often determines whether or not he will be hired into
entry-level positions. Correlations have also been made between level of communication skills and those who rate high in job performance.
