What explains this? A student writing on the subject of examining the mind of the criminal and how it applies to murder in the workplace, may want to use examples of these types of murders. The type of murder is unique. It may not have causes different from the normal fare of criminal, but certainly there are profiles of murderers and those who are more inclined to murder in the workplace will likely have a unique history. A lot of the puzzle is aligned with personality. Does an individual have a certain personality that might suggest a predisposition to violence? In some cases, the handwriting is on the wall. Someone is "wound so tight" that the fact that he commits murder comes as no surprise. This is unfortunate. Zachary (2000) examines workplace violence and sees it as an increasing problem. Interestingly, some companies that have programs to deal with violence see a connection between workplace violence and domestic violence (Zachary, 2000). The author also explains some warning signs which are absenteeism, lateness, inability to focus, nervousness, poor performance, unexplained injuries and inappropriate clothing that might mask bruises (Zachary, 2000). Someone who perpetrates violence in the workplace may in fact be someone who is abused or is an abuser. Changes in personality may be an indicator as can taking off from work to go to court (Zachary, 2000). Of course, no one sign suggests that someone will shoot up the workplace, but if an employee is aligned with a number of signs, and people feel uneasy about a particular worker, that individual may be suspect. More serious signs are when a worker is controlling, critical, jealous or simply has a threatening personality (Zachary, 2000). This type of person often blames others (Zachary, 2000).
