a child" (Chiczewski and Kelly, 2003, p. 20). MSBP constitutes child abuse and has been known to be result in the death of the child (Chiczewski and Kelly, 2003). As
most MSBP victims are children under the age of six, nurses, as primary caregivers, are ideally situated to provide evidence that confirms a diagnosis of MSBP. Incidence The incidence
at which MSBP occurs is difficult to determine (Johns, 2007). While there is the possibility that it is underreported, as perpetrators of MSBP are frequently knowledge about medical procedures and
can, therefore, be quite believable in their deceptions. On the other hand, there is also the possibility of over-reporting, particularly due to the media attention that MSBP has received in
recent years (Johns, 2007). Women who assert that they have been falsely accused argue that healthcare practitioners are too quick to make accusations of MSBP when they cannot find the
