nation. Multicultural education is not always simply about teaching about other cultures, or accepting other cultures into the education system, but also of teaching about the rest of the world
and teaching a respect for people, cultures, and the planet. The following paper examines aspects of multicultural education. Multicultural Education 1.
Acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity: In society today there is a lot of talk about tolerance as it involves people who are different from each other. Tolerance, however, is
not the key and this approach could lead to a clear element of disadvantage in relationship to cultural diversity. This is because people essentially "tolerate" things they do not like.
People "tolerate" bugs and inconveniences. They do not like them. So it is important that "acceptance" and "appreciation" be the key words.
Even if people have very different cultures, very different backgrounds, this does not mean that people should treat each other with anything less than acceptance. And through teaching acceptance one
can learn to appreciate all cultures. The people from South America can learn to appreciate the European culture of the United States and the people in the United States who
are from a white European history can learn to appreciate others from other nations and cultures. For example, one author notes, "Teachers applying a transformative approach weave a range of
cultural perspectives throughout the curriculum" (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, 2008). This can be done by telling a classic story, such as Cinderella, as it comes from many cultures.
