about Mexicans (lazy, shiftless, eager to take an Americans job, etc.) and deal with them as real people. The student has forwarded information that tells us Mexicans value their families
above everything else and that family reasons are the most frequent reasons given for absenteeism. Mexican men tend to work simply to put bread on the table, not because they
want to build a career. They need to be reassured more frequently than their American counterparts; they are also more comfortable working in groups than taking individual responsibility for their
work. Supervisors need to communicate with Mexican workers more than they would with U.S. employees, and they need to show them respect, warmth and care, particularly about important moments in
their lives, such as birthdays. Finally, Mexicans are a very warm people with a long heritage of which they are very proud and a supervisor who shows an interest in
architecture, history and other facets of Mexican life will do very well. Given all this, its clear that the most effective reward system will probably incorporate something that includes the
employees family members and provides them with time together. That might include days off with pay so that the entire family can do something, or invitations to company-sponsored events in
which the entire family can take part. A firm in Canada actively recruits Mexicans to work in Alberta; they state that the working conditions, "hours of work, salaries, and
benefits in Alberta are far superior to those in Mexico" (Recruiting). This company, BIDMEXICO International Inc. thus suggests that Mexicans would respond to the same benefits as Americans. In addition,
