approach is Starbucks, this is a firm that has to server a lot of people very quickly, so has a high level of controlled processes which are formulated and give
the employees little discretion in the way that they perform the task with the sue of standardised procedures. In order to look at the firm in terms of the
motivation it is necessary to look at a number of areas, this can include the way that the jobs are designed and the level of discretion that employees are able
to exert as well as the ways in which they are rewards, which include both financial and non-financial rewards as well as a general consideration of the employment relationship.
These may be considered in terms of motivation theories such as Maslow, Hertzberg and McGregor, and compared with the problems that are associated
with processes where there is standardised work with a lack of discretion, this is worth consideration as many of the negative aspects that are associated with repetitive jobs, such as
high attritian rates and absenteeism, appear to be absent as Starbucks and the motivation levels are generally high. Looking at these aspects will allow us to determine how and why
this occurs. It may be argued that many modern restaurant chains are modern day applications of scientific management, where there is a
