What ever happened to excitement, and enthusiasm in the workplace? In short, what ever happened to motivation? Why is it so many people seem to be lacking this
critical component and what can employers do to encourage motivation? In order to fully understand how to motivate people though, it is important to understand the basics of motivation
itself. Theories of Motivation Abraham Maslow - Hierarchy of Needs: One theory of motivation stems from Abraham Maslow
and his theories which are based on his idea of hierarchy of needs (Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of Needs, 2002, See also Owston, 2002, See also Theories of Motivation, 2002).
Basically, his idea of hierarchy of needs dictates that every person has various needs, some of which are more important and more powerful than others (Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of Needs,
