Essay / Research Paper Abstract
3 pages in length. Reading Langston Hughes' poem "Mother to Son" provides a brief but powerful image of a how mother's strength is often the single greatest influence in her young boy's life. A mother's insightfulness comes only with experience, which is precisely the way this mother attempts to redirect her troubled son's perspective of self. Life is hard, she acknowledges, but its rewards are worth the effort. Indeed, this is a conversation that my own mother had with me many times during my adolescent years when what seemed to be monumental setbacks kept thwarting personal goals with unforeseen obstacles. but somehow found the strength to continue no matter how bad things became. It is difficult to ignore the experiences of others as they relate to your own life
especially when they have been harrowing. I did not always come to the right conclusions given the immaturity that accompanies adolescence, but I did have the solid strength and
