is generally done for the good of all society, but at the same time many may argue that prisons do nothing but hold the criminals when they should be helping
them. The prison system is so overcrowded, and funding so minimal, that the concerns are growing stronger and stronger. Many argue that crimes, such as possession of marijuana, should be
addressed differently, legalizing marijuana perhaps, because the system is filled with such offenders who are not truly criminals. In short, the prison system of the nation is overcrowded and does
little or nothing to truly address the rehabilitation of the criminals. From a moral perspective this is perhaps something that should be greatly addressed in our society for a variety
of reasons. The following paper examines the relationship between morality and the prison system of the nation. Morality and Prison When people think of morality they more often
than not envision the involvement of religion as well. While religion is often seen as the teacher of morality, religion does not need to be brought into the subject for
ethical issues involving morality need not outwardly focus on religion. As such there are many ways around religion when insisting on morality in our society. The following information will therefore
be addressing morality, with little mention of religion, for morality must be accepted and embraced in society regardless of religious standing, despite the fact it is a very religious element
for many. The moral treatment of individuals, criminal or not, however, is very much a religious ideal that should be seriously considered by the Christian who believes in the teachings
of Jesus Christ that speak of non-judgment and loving ones neighbor. In relationship to prisons people, or society, have a moral obligation to not abuse criminals. While they are
