Her arrangement is immediately and quite unexpectedly interrupted when she becomes pregnant, inasmuch as she knows the boss's opinion of women, children and partnership: women do not make good partners when children are in the picture because motherhood is too much of a distraction. Sharon decides to save her career over her unborn baby and terminates the pregnancy through abortion, an action that clearly illustrates the manner by which contemporary society is bound by the tenets of self-indulgence and individualism. has come to represent myriad things to myriad people, ultimately rendering any universal explanation virtually impossible. The problem with meaning as it relates to the morality of Sharons decision
is attempting to successfully pinpoint a single yet comprehensive connotation to its concept; however, this cannot be achieved as long as any two individuals harbor decidedly different interpretations. To
Sharon, giving up her professional career at this stage of the game would be forfeiting everything for which she had worked so hard; indeed, at the very least it would
certainly cost her a partnership in the firm, thereby impeding upon her objective to run for office and ultimately help the less fortunate. That this child would single-handedly throw
a tremendous wrench in her lifes plan that she had so carefully constructed was reason enough for Sharon to seek abortion as the answer.
Given the fact that mankind is mere mortal by nature, the student may readily contend that Sharon does not possess the inherent endowment to perform acts of God.
