conformance between them, at least some of the time. Though he does not believe that having an aptitude for truth provides a person with the right to expressivism, or the
right to assert his views upon others, he also acknowledges that the desire (to assert) language, which can be opposite and paradoxical to moral truth, is as much a part
of human nature as is belief. Belief is a moral truth. As such, Smith supports the nihilism of language, on a personal level, in support of the fabric and greater
good of moral realism and its systems of truth-values. Also going against minimalists, Smith not only provides a link between truth-belief, but gives
it a "possible truth value." In Smiths reasoning, there can be an element of truth within any stated desire even though it may be non-conformist to the conformist truth-values inherent
in accepted moral beliefs. His brand of moral realism allows for a subset of inconsistencies. For example, he would say, a desire to believe holds within it a cognitive rationality
that may support within it a truth-value. Even if that truth-value is degraded and simple, it is still motivated by a desire to participate in normative beliefs and the system

The strength of autonomy in relationship to moral agency in the mind of Thomas Hill comes from the Kantian belief that a person acts morally from an autonomous base, whereas
the opposite is also true. In a group, individuals are subject to persuasion, making them susceptible to being led down the wrong path, which is in itself immoral and unethical.
