probes into the human condition and exposes the excesses and shallowness with which people often run their lives. In terms of Gatsby himself, his life is full of issues
which revolve around love, money, and the intermingling of both. Gatsby has loved Daisy for a very long time and believes that
his wealth is enough to impress her and win her heart. And still, in the end, he realizes that this is not the case. Daisy herself is unable
to truly examine herself or her life because she is so wrapped up in her shallow world of parties, vacations, and other meaningless distractions.
What emerges when one examines the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy, the two main characters of the novel, is a very sad, empty and lonely portrait
of the pair. From an outside perspective it is easy to see just how lonely these people really are and just how empty their lives are despite the enormous
wealth which they both are privileged to have. One of the main themes of this book then is just how important it
is to truly examine our lives. It may seem that living a life of wealth would be easy and would negate the necessity of deeper exploration but, not only
is this not true but it would seem as if soul-searching were even more of a priority for those of wealth given the ease with which a meaningless, empty life
