the 19th century. For the most part their art was considered Impressionistic, though Whistler was not necessarily imbedded in this art form. The following paper examines and analyzes a painting
from each artist and then compare the three briefly in the closing section. The paintings examined are Monets "Impression Sunrise" (1873), Renoirs "La Moulin De La Galette" (1876), and Whistlers
"Nocturne in Black and Gold" (1874). Impression Sunrise Claude Monets painting "Impression Sunrise" (1873) is one of many painted in a particular location where Monet lived. One
critic indicates that "From 1871 to 1878 Monet lived at Argenteuil, a village on the Seine near Paris, and here were painted some of the most joyous and famous works
of the Impressionist movement, not only by Monet, but by his visitors Manet, Renoir and Sisley" (Pioch [1], 2002). This information offers, at the very least, a bit of insight

colors are comprised of many as we see periwinkle blues, purples, orange, greens, golds and perhaps every color one could imagine blending into one another and incorporating each other into
the subject matter on the canvas. This particular painting was created during just one period of Monets life and it is very symbolic of his impressionist paintings in general.
