generation much to consider. It is a story of a woman who struggles through her life, going from an impoverished child to a woman of substantial means in a time
period when such realities were often unheard of. This is not to say that she remains a woman of means, for she struggles with her situations and her reality and
essentially makes many journeys which land her in a less than wealthy state. It is a rags to riches to rags again tale in many ways. There are, as would
be imagined, many ways in which one could examine the complex and determined character of Moll Flanders. In the following paper we examine the character of Moll Flanders, from the
perspective of her determination. The paper then discusses the life of Daniel Defoe as it relates to the story of Moll Flanders. Moll Flanders In providing a very
short summary of the story we note that Moll is born to a woman who is sent to America to work on plantations because she has been convicted of petty
theft. Moll is left to be raised by gypsies who then leave her in Colchester. The parish officers of the area give her to woman who runs a small school
where Moll informs workers that she wants to grow up to be a gentlewoman. What this means is that she wants to support herself and not live in poverty.
At one point she goes to live with a woman and her daughters, for the woman is very impressed with Molls attitude and ladylike behavior. However, Moll and the
