styles that were seen in the 20th century. History One of the most prominent cities in British Columbia is Victoria and it is in this city that one
can find some intriguing history and trends concerning modern architecture. And, not surprisingly, when discussing Victoria one must also perhaps consider Vancouver, a relatively young city, that is located only
a short distance from Victoria. In examining these two cities, the primary cities in British Columbia, we can find a great deal about modern architecture. In relationship to modern architecture
in Victoria and Vancouver we note that it was the first few decades following the Second World War that there was a great boomin building in these cities. The University
of Victoria [2] indicates that, "like the development of the urban identity with its collective attitudes and aspirations, the enthusiasm for, and the development of Modernism in each city has
been distinct" (University of Victoria [2]). .The modern movement in Victoria is argued as lasting from 1945 to 1975 and in this era there were many contrasting notions about which
direction this modern era should take: "While many of the citizens of Victoria cherished and identified with its picturesque architecture grandfathered by such architects as John Wright (1830 ? 1915),
