wondering if order would ever again be restored. Some even speculated whether or not order had ever existed, or if it had been little more than a carefully-contrived illusion.
Postwar literature reflected this mass confusion, as individuals sought introspection to make sense out of a cosmos that now seemed nonsensical. Thus, a new style of writing emerged
that was deeply rooted into the twentieth century, and a new literary theory was born, that of modernism. Modernism was, quite simply an attempt to derive sense from chaos
by going "where literature had never gone before." It sought to reflect the complexities of modern world through the use of innovative use of narration, complex and often
disjointed plots, and psychoanalytical analysis of the human condition. Modernist literature was not merely read; it was experienced by the reader. It was realistic, but the writing was
