However, there are many ways in which the two are quite different. Modernism and postmodernism involve all aspects of society, from art to the media, from economics to popular culture.
They are words that help define the differences from one period to another. The following paper examines how the two differ, providing differences between the two in relationship to many
different social conditions or realities. Modernism and Postmodernism In first examining the differences between the two we look at general descriptions of the belief systems of the time
period. Modernism is described as a time of "disenchantment with material truth and search for abstract truth" (Kiss of the Panopticon, 1998). Postmodernism is described as a time when people
believe "There is no universal truth, abstract or otherwise" (Kiss of the Panopticon, 1998). From this we can see that there is quite a different regarding how people perceive their
world and how they adjust to that world. In modern times people were still looking for some universal truth and today, in postmodern times, we generally believe there is no
universal truth. This does not mean that many people are not still immersed in religious beliefs, but from a larger perspective that relates to the cultural world, the economic world
there is no universal truth that all people search for. In the past, people, as a whole, always searched for that truth. In terms of specifics we first look
at culture. In modernism culture was often divided into low and high culture. "High culture vs. low culture -- strictly divided; Only high culture deserves to be studied, analyzed" (Kiss
