A 10 page paper discussing the characteristics and origins of Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Judaism as it exists in today’s world. What constitutes Judaism can be confusing for non-Jews. While we Gentiles and others consider a Jew to be a member of one of the world’s leading religions, we often forget that Jewishness also involves an ethnic identification for most of the world’s Jews. Both the culture and religion have undergone changes in the past several decades, indeed in the past century. The result is that the Jews have been able to retain their ancient traditions while still being successful in the modern world. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

sought to eliminate Jews from the face of the earth, and he was quite successful in his mission for as long as it lasted. The Holocaust and changing times
combined to bring about a new perspective within much of the Jewish world community. Historical Perspective The Torah - Mosaic Law - is
the most holy book in the Jewish faith and also constitutes the first five books of the Christian Bible. Waskow (1997) writes that the call to love non-Jews is
contained in the Torah and as such, is a commandment that Jews must heed. On the other hand, the Torah also contains instruction from God to the Jews that
they are to tolerate only so much harassment from other nations. They are Gods chosen people and are to retain Gods teaching and instruction for all time.
The Jews wait for God to send the Messiah who will save them. This is the primary point of divergence between Christians and Jews:
Christians believe that the Messiah already has appeared in Jesus Christ, that he is the Messiah for whom the Jews still wait. Today, many Jews and Jewish teachers
have determined that they should not have taken the teachings of the coming of the Messiah quite so literally. Though Orthodox Jews still expect a Messiah - other than
