Evolutionism is the theory that all living beings change over time through mutation and natural selection. Mutations in cells change the physical properties of organisms; natural selection produces the
survival and reproduction of organisms with beneficial adaptations to their environment. According to theistic evolutionism, God creates through the process of evolution (Friedman A45). When one views the
actual definitions of both creationism and science, it is apparent that creationism does not meet the criteria of being a science. Science upholds the theory of evolution while creationism
infers that plant and animal matter were created out of nothing. In the scientific community one could readily argue that there is little doubt that the general outline of
Darwins theory of evolution is correct. Biology makes no sense unless it is viewed through the eyes of evolution, as the Nobel Prize
winning biologist Theodosius Dobzhansky observed. As such, even the New York State Regents biology curriculum includes evolution, stating that creationism does not qualify as information generated by scientific processes
and that the teaching of supernatural accounts of origins is not a recommended procedure (Friedman A45). Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan of the Diocese of Santa Fe stated in two
separate newspapers, "I dont believe there is any real contradiction between the theory of evolution and the creation of the world by God. The church has no problem accepting
the theory of evolution, provided that it is understood that God infuses a human soul at a certain point in the evolutionary process and that, in fact, God is the
force behind the evolution process" (Thomas 5). However, evolution is the central organizing principle that biologists use to understand the world. "If we want our children to have
