Weil have pointed out, the appropriate use of teaching models basically equates with choosing the "appropriate tool for the job," as the idea that there is one ideal model teaching
that can apply universally is a misconception (Models of Teaching). As this suggests, it makes sense that teachers should be knowledgeable about a wide range of teaching models, which afford
them the opportunity to select from a broad range of option. Learning, motivation and models of teaching : Eggen and Kauchak based their text on the premise that "no
single approach to teaching is appropriate to all situations" and, therefore, "effective teachings requires alternatives strategies for reaching a particular goal" (Models of Teaching). AS this statement implies, teachers should
evaluate the learning goals required; strategies for motivating students that fit with student knowledge and abilities; and then consider the elements of various teaching models that are congruent with these
factors. Trying to make one model of teaching adapt to all pedagogical needs is rather like trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. Essential teaching strategies and
the teaching of thinking : Critical thinking is defined as "the ability to construct and/or extrapolate abstract meaning in and from a variety of settings and medium" (Brooks 393). While
teachers universally try to stimulate critical thinking skills in their students, there is no consensus about how to achieve the goals of this model of instruction. Gocsik points out that
reading assignments and lectures do not necessarily improve critical thinking skills, as these activities are passive. Therefore, it is important to familiarize students with the elements of critical thinking and
