driving a car. The following examination of investigates law pertaining to minors and driving while under the influence, with particular regard for Connecticut law. This discussion explores the rights and
consequences of legal decision-making on the part of minors. Alcohol is not only a toxic drug, it acts as a sedative. Like valium and other tranquilizers, it acts directly
on the brain (CT DoT). This sedation immediately impairs the individuals ability to perform complicated tasks, such as driving a car (CT DoT). Whether or not a driver is judged
to be driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol depends on his or her blood alcohol content (BAC). In Connecticut, for adults over the age of 21, the legal limit
for BAC is .08 percent; however, Connecticut law has established a stricter limit for minor driver. The law states that - any driver under the age of 21, with
more than a trace of alcohol (.02 Blood Alcohol Content BAC or higher) in their system will be subjected to a 3 month license suspension under the new zero tolerance
law (CT DoT). It is very easy to acquire a BAC of .02. According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DoT), for the majority of teen drivers,
consuming one drink within an hour of driving will result in a BAC of .02 (CT DoT).Refusing to submit to testing carries even stiffer penalties, as refusal entails a 6
