this is not the truth for the minority people have long been pushed into various categories where they must struggle twice as hard to achieve what seems all but given
to average white people. No matter the institution or the field of study minorities still seem to be in a position wherein they must prove themselves to be better than
average in order to receive average attention. And, with many problematic conditions in inner cities, where the majority of the population are minorities, the issues become even more complex. One
of the most telling institutions in the nation, which illustrates such truths, is the institution of education. Although the minorities are supposedly given the same opportunities there are still many
realities which indicate they are experiencing retention in the education system of higher education, which clearly suggest more problems throughout all aspects of education in the nation. The following paper
examines minorities and education in general, then discusses minorities in higher education. The paper then presents an examination of Vincent Tintos article "Taking Student Retention Seriously." At this point the
paper examines what is being done and what needs to be done to encourage a better system of education that encourages minorities. Minorities and Education
